Indexer Stuck at 0% and not progressing

SearchWP’s indexer was designed and built to be a background process. In order for that to happen, the indexer makes a series of HTTP loopback calls to your site. This allows the indexer to progress without interfering with site interaction.

There are a few common things that may interfere with this background process, some of which include:

  • Access restriction plugins
  • Maintenance Mode plugins
  • HTTP Basic Authentication
  • Custom hosts file

To accommodate these setups, SearchWP has an alternate indexer built in.

Enable SearchWP Alternate Indexer

SearchWP’s alternate indexer can be enabled by ticking the checkbox on the Advanced tab of the SearchWP settings screen.

Once the checkbox is ticked, return to the main tab of the SearchWP settings screen to initiate the alternate indexer. When using the alternate indexer the browser window must be kept open. This process needs to run only once to build the initial index. The index will be kept up to date as content is added/removed/edited.
